What is a door skin?
A door skin, otherwise known as a door panel, is part of a door that provides the exterior surface and aesthetics. This is basically a thin sheet or panel attached to a door frame for covering and protection purposes of the inner mechanism.
The most general purpose of a door skin would be to add some aesthetics to a door. They are usually made from various materials, including wood, metal, or fiberglass, depending on the desired look and level of durability. Wood skins will give a traditional or natural look, while metal skins provide a modern or industrial look. Fiberglass skins are also known for being solid, rigid, and able to withstand weather conditions.
The door skin should not just be pleasing to the eye; it must also protect the door and hold it up. It shields the inner parts of the door from harm caused by outside forces such as impact, water, high temperature and strength.
There are many designs available for door skins in different styles and tastes. Customizable door skins come in many options such as smoothness, texture, groove or paneling thus to meet every design need. The leading technology is employed by majority of door manufactures when making the best quality skins so that they never chip off, scratch nor fade.
Installation of a door skin requires experts who will perform the job with skill and accuracy because only then can a new door panel attach properly to its frame after removal of an old one.
In conclusion, the skin is a finishing layer of a door, which not only serves as decoration but also provides protection. By enhancing its look and allowing for various designs, it saves inside parts from being spoilt by outside forces. The reason why doors are able to last for such a long time and function smoothly is due to the fact that their skins contribute significantly to their general firmness and durability.
